Aquavation logoAt Simon, Sarah Plasky found something of inestimable value: A business school rigorous enough to seize her interest.

As a student in Simon’s Executive MBA program, Sarah found herself in an environment both exhilarating and awe inspiring. “I was surrounded by senior executives running worldwide operations, doctors overseeing ERs,” Sarah recalls. “For some it might be the ultimate intimidation. But I wasn’t there to compare myself to others; I was there to learn from them.”

Sarah had sought out the area’s most challenging program. But she found one that was surprisingly intimate. “Simon’s professors come in early to share breakfast with you,” she says. “You don’t get that at other area schools.”

Graduating from Simon has unleashed the entrepreneur in her. In 2008 Sarah left Xerox to consult with top corporations on technology and marketing challenges, in her new business, the Digital CMO. She found a niche in handling what her clients referred to as “seriously nasty business problems” and Sarah credits Simon for giving her the ability to tackle them. Today she is applying her Simon skills to her newest venture, Aquavation, a start-up company devoted to helping non-profit partners raise funds through an innovative co-marketing process.

She also appreciates the unexpected way her Simon relationships helped her in business far after the program concluded.

“When I started the Digital CMO, Dean Zupan asked me for 50 business cards,” says Sarah. “A few weeks later, he e-mailed me and asked for some more.”

Now that Aquavation has left the concept stage and is underway, the Dean consistently asks how the Simon Business School can be of assistance as she gets the new company up and running.

She says she remains inspired by the Simon network, because she is still learning from its membership.
